I need to apologize.
For those of you who have been following this blog for some time, I know it has been difficult these past months to go without your nostalgia fix. I feel sorry if my absence has caused you any delerium tremens, depressive episodes, or desire to run naked through city streets in a makeshift tutu and platform heels. I realize the role that nostalgia plays in keeping us sane when the demands of the daily grind get to us; there is always comfort in looking back to simpler times, to before we had to pay rent, or change dirty diapers, or wear reading glasses.
I am glad to say, however, that I'm finally back in this ridiculous saddle and ready to spread the love with "Queen Week".
For today, I'd like to share with you a video from this past year's MTV EMA awards. It features the MTV EMA finale of Queen with guest vocal performance by Adam Lambert. Those of you who have followed my blog for years remember that I am a big Lambert fan. When his pristine vocals are combined with the music of Queen, it somehow feels...I dunno...right.
I was too lazy to find the live version with audio and video that has not been blocked from YouTube (seriously--what do you expect? I still own a VHS player and lament the demise of the Betamax. Don't expect much from me, OKAY?). But here, go ahead and click to at least listen to this totally rad medley:
There has been much gossip and rumor-making about the possibility of Adam Lambert taking up the mic permanently as frontman for Queen, one of my all-time favorite bands of the 70s and 80s. But as of now, it seems these are just rumors; Adam has suggested himself that there may be some future appearances with Queen, but a permanent gig as frontman is currently not in the making.
I would love to hear your opinions on this pairing. Honestly, I could not think of a more fitting combination. I am sure Freddie himself would approve of what Lambert does with these songs--he delivers the spirit of the original, but changes them just enough to make it feel like something new. No one wants to hear Queen karaoke, but we also do not want to hear our beloved classics deformed and made unrecognizable. In this performance, Adam Lambert commits neither sin.
Basically, it ROCKS.

Thanks for writing this!!! Adam Lambert is the perfect complement to Queen -- and I love that he is planning to do some special events with them ---and still perform his own very special brand of music!
I think Adam Lambert would be perfect but I wouldn't want him to stop making his own music. I loved his last album.

I agree with both of you. Looking forward to the release of his sophomore album, "Trespassing", in March. Especially interested in hearing the tracks he did with Nile Rodgers, who was an integral part of the music of the 80s (Duran Duran, Bowie, etc). Very exciting that he wanted to go into the studio with Adam!
I wish there were time for both Queen and the solo stuff--I would relish it all :)
