I may have blogged about The Wonder Years in the past, but I can't help doing it again.
I get away with mentioning this program because, although it is set in the 1960s and early 70s, this series was filmed in the 1980s and early 90s. Watching this excellent show was part of my high school and college years, for sure. Even though I was not so far removed from the middle school trials, tribulations and triumphs of Kevin Arnold, I was old enough to understand the nostalgic quality of the program even then. I found the narration to be beautiful (and true).
Because all the episodes of this well-written and expertly performed series are now available on Netflix streaming, we have a habit of tuning in, as a family, to at least one episode of The Wonder Years virtually EVERY night. It has become almost like a ritual for us these past weeks. We laugh a little; we cry a lot. We do it together, from the youngest family member to the oldest.
Trapped in the 80s Moms (and Dads), this is the program for all ages. Your kids will love it. You will love it. Your grandma will love it. It is even better than you remembered (you are an adult now, after all). Just do it.
Here is the intro to the pilot.

Unbelievably, I have never seen this show. I think it's on one of our cable channels though, so I should try it.
I used to love a show called Brooklyn Bridge, but no one seems to remember it. It was kind of along the lines of Wonder Years. I keep hoping it comes out on DVD but it never does :)
As an '80s teen who was also nostalgic for the '60s, I loved watching this program back then. Today, I'm nostalgic for both eras. And yes, I still watch "The Wonder Years" on cable!
Yeah, I watched this show. I still remember when it premiered after the Super Bowl.
