Gene Loves Jezebel Goes 'Hair Band'

I really loved the band Gene Loves Jezebel. I have always thought this song by them was very strange, as they take a step away from their normal sound (which would be called what? Gothic Rock? How WOULD you categorize it?) into the 80s 'Hair Band' sound and aesthetic. This was never one of my favorite songs by them (that honor goes, of course, to 'Desire'); but it is an interesting departure. If you knew Gene Loves Jezebel, you probably, like me, found it a little ... weird. Any GLJ fans out there?

Hello my fellow 80's disciple!

I loved GLB as well. "Desire" was and still is one of my favs from that era (I hate to refer to our youthful past as an era, being as I still like to swim in that pool)

They had that cool, quirky, androgynous vibe. As a heterosexual, who is quite comfortable with his own male-ness, would find myself quite smitten when watching their videos. (see also Prince "when doves cry" Yikes! I do like women, right? Yes Bret, you do..it's OK)

Again, you've yet to cease to amaze me with our similar taste! thanks for sharing the video, kinda glad I missed that one. Not my idea of a sucsesful blend; GLB meets Warrant (ugh!)

Haha, Bret, nothing unmanly about recognizing that many men look way better in makeup, just as women do. Sheesh, the dudes back in the 18th century knew that.

And yes, we do have to refer to it as an era (weird, its like we are talking about the industrial revolution or the age of enlightenment or something, LOL!). There is no 80s revival for me - it has been on the turntable (yes, turntable!) all along.

Thanks for commenting! I know you would get along well with my husband if you knew him in real life (right now as we speak he is struggling with mastering a new songwriting software - based on your background you are familiar with 'that', aka music guy has to suddenly become tech guy!).

I saw GLJ in Los Angeles as part of their "L.A street scene" It was amazing. They would block off streets in downtown L.A and many bands played for free. Can you guess what happened? You are correct gang violenced fucked it up. During a set of Fishbone the Punk Rockers and the Mexican gangsters (cholos) got in a brawl. I think that was the last concert they had.
