SWATCH Watches - Again!

I just can't get enough of the SWATCH.

I know I blogged about this great iconic watch already, but you have to hear about it again! I will never tire of its colorful 1980s vibe.

Here is a Swatch commercial from the 80's that I don't remember, but its cool nonetheless. I like the part where they show the Swatch Guard. Most Swatch commercials don't feature this awesome accessory. Enjoy!

Thanks to Youtube user Mahinn for this video.

I don't remember ever seeing that commercial either. One thing I noticed is the color. The 80s were all about color, wasn't it?

I loved my Swatch Watches. The more on an arm the better. Ohh!! and the guards too. It was all about color.

Okay, BITTER memory for me on this one. (pout!). I never had a Swatch. Nope. And I asked for one at EVERY holiday for several years in a row. But nothing. Even Santa stiffed me on the Swatch -- and that still stings cuz Santa was usually sooo generous! Go figure. My friend, Erin, had like 10 Swatches and she'd wear them several at a time, travelling up both arms. I was soOOooOO envious! There I was with my ugly, bland-colored, generic, big-whoopdeedoo watch, and she had Swatches to spare! TOTALLY UNFAIR! And, heck yes, I tried to talk her out of one -- just one; even the ugliest one -- but she wouldn't go for it. Even when I tried to trade her a Madonna cassette! Once I thought she was giving me one for my birthday -- the box seemed to suggest a watch-like item was lurking inside. But, nope. It was a fountain pen. Yes, a fountain pen. And it leaked too. (oh yay -- yes, Erin, much better than a Swatch. Thanks!). Erin, if you're reading this: would it have really KILLED you to just let me BORROW one for ONE DAY, just so I could get a tiny glimpse of what it felt like to wear a non-Kmart-esque watch, huh?! Dammit, I let you borrow my Star Hits magazine with a-ha on the cover!!!!

oh my, Cora, that sounds like my Snoopy Snow Cone Machine when I was little. I wanted one SO BAD! You see, I happen to have grown up in the world capitol not of snow cones, but of something MUCH BETTER, it makes sno cones look disgusting, its the Snowball. Same idea, only very fine ice and incredible rich flavors (we have snoball places here that have like 50 different flavors - my favorite is 'nectar with cream'). Anyway, my parnets kept saying 'we won't get that dumb thing, the snocones will suck, and you have to keep buying the supplies'. i always knew to never ask for any present where you had to refill or replace anything, because they ALWAYS said no.

That sno cone machine was at the top of my christmas list for 5 years and Santa nor my parents ever got it.

So I feel your pain.

If it makes you feel any better, I had only one swatch, the classic black witht he slightly greenish glow in the dark numbers. I got the big man one, not the lil lady version.

Oh yeah! I remember the Snoopy Snow Cone Machine! Nope, I never had one either. My parents were under the impression we'd use it once, get tired of it and never use it again. I protested that and swore I'd use it all the time. But they never fell for it. Then my neighbor got one and I was as thrilled as if it were mine! We used it. Once. Gleefully, at first.... until we realized it was taking forever just to make one snow cone.... and it was more work than advertised.... and the wimpy snow cone we ended up with didn't even taste that great. And we never used it again. I guess sometimes parents actually do know what they're talking about -- imagine that! :-)

ha, I'm sure they were right, just as yours were about the $80 swatch that told time as well as the kmart knockoff that costs $8 ;-)

The ad is very funny. All the cool kids at school had swatches and sadly I wasn't one of them.

I was lucky enought to have several swatches and I still have 2 of them! I feel that they have never gone out of style. I am trying to locate one that I lost a long time ago. Does anyone know of a place to look up old 1980's swatches?
Thanks

I'm trying to locate this one swatch commercial, which was about the clothing line?

Was there one, where a brunette female went into a clothing store,a 'surfer type' dude was manning the counter,he asked her if he could help her,and before she said more than 'yes I'd like',her search for aid was cut off by an 'eek!',as her clothing divorced itself from her, leaving her in her panties, until she was re-clothed,in Swatch clothing,at which point, she said,'never mind,I'll take these!'
