Skinny Jeans

They say skinny jeans are making a comeback, but honestly, I have not seen it yet in any meaningful way. To be skinny jeans, they need to be so tight around the ankles that you need not tuck them into boots. They also can't be hip-huggers, as is the style now. To really count, they need to come right up to the waist the way they did way back when. In otherwords, they need to be made not for women with a normal figure, but for people like Brooke Shields.

Remember your favorite jeans back at the 'turn of the 80's'? For me, the end all and be all were a pair of Gloria Vanderbilts, super tight, really dark blue. Eventually I got them, I think for Christmas. Chic Jeans were also a must have for teens. And Calvin Kleins, but I can't say I had the money to actually afford those.

Here is the gorgeous big eyebrowed (yay for eyebrows!) Brooke Shields in a VERY COOL ad. Check out her glasses at the beginning! Those were SUPER COOL, were they not?

Now, let's try to REALLY bring back the 'skinny jeans'!

My first pair of Guess jeans were my skinny jeans. I got them in 8th grade for my confirmation. i told my Mom not to get me a cross or bible or anyhting religious because the only thing I really want is Guess jeans. They were awesome! I still have them even though they don't fit. The last time I wore them was in college after I got really skinny.

That's a funny confirmation gift, Traci ;-)

You'll get in them again - if I can figure a way to get in those Forenza pants again, you need to get into the Guess ;-)

You are so right! I hadn't thought about my skinny jeans in so long. Definitely Gloria Vanderbilt, the bottoms so tight you had to fight to get the heel of your foot through them. I remember some of my peers who didn't have the 'right kind' of jeans would actually put their jeans on, lay in a bath tub with them on and blow dry them so they would dry skin tight!

Okay ladies, I don't think I have ever had "skinny jeans" well maybe when I was 10. :)
No really I do remember those and I loved the really tight ankles and the tight fit, it definitely gave support, kinda like an 80's corset.
Lakelandmom, are you serious, in the bathtub and then blow dryer? Holy Cow!

laurie, that's a funny idea, jeans as the '80s corset'. I like it!

Back my skinny jeans days I would have to zip them up using a pair of pliers. Yes, I kept a pair of those in my nightstand. I remember the Gloria Vs and Guess but I REFUSED to wear Gitano cause I thought it was too close to the word Giganto and I didn't want that written on my backside!

Today, I just have chunky jeans. Jeans that give me enough room to eat in, don't damage any vital internal organs when I sit down and have a little wiggle room so you can't see my granny panty lines.

That should be "Back in..." Sorry, I think my jeans are too tight and cutting off the circulation to my brian, I mean brain.

ps. What's up with Brooke trying to put her foot into her ear?

Skinny jeans ARE super popular now - high waist came back last fall.
It's not for me, but they are available! If you live in NYC you'll see them everywhere!

I was all about the CK jeans, and Guess was a close second. Remember when you could buy all those brands at Foley's? And I would certainly call this trend skinny jeans. Acid wash is making a comeback too. LOL
